How we work

Plain answers about how this works.

You should know how I'm paid, how places get suggested, and what happens to your information before you tell me anything.

Every home, checked

We check every home's license with the state, every day.

Every home on Miami Placement holds an assisted living license from Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), the state agency that licenses and inspects these homes.

  1. 1Licensed by the stateWe list only homes with an active Florida assisted living license.
  2. 2Checked every dayEvery night we look up each license on the state's records. If one is suspended or revoked, or the state stops new admissions, that listing comes down until it's back in good standing. Anything else on the record, we look at the same day. Each listing shows the date it was last checked.
  3. 3See it yourselfEvery home page links to the home's official state record, so you can read it before you visit.

Every home also signs a written agreement with us. They agree to keep their photos, rooms, prices and open beds honest and current, to quote you the price on their page, to treat every family with respect however they pay, and never to add our fee to your bill.

How we're paid

  • Families never pay us anything.
  • Homes that sign our referral agreement pay us a fee only when a private pay family we introduced moves in.
  • No home pays us for a family on Medicaid, including Long-Term Care, Assistive Care Services or Optional State Supplementation. We still help those families, at no cost to them.
  • Homes agree in writing never to add our fee to your bill.
  • There's no fee to be listed. Nobody pays to be shown first.

How places get suggested

  • By fit: the care someone needs, how close they'll be to family, the room they want, and the budget.
  • Never by which home pays us, how much, or whether it has a badge.
  • Every home that pays us pays the same way.

No kickbacks, either direction

  • We never pay or reward anyone for sending us a family: not hospitals, hospices, guardians, attorneys, planners or other homes.
  • We never take anything from a home or a hospice for steering a family to it.
  • We don't drive families to tours, and we don't trade families with anyone.

What happens to your information

  • You decide, in three separate okays: whether we can use it to help you, whether a needs card with no name can go to homes that might fit, and whether your name and number can go to the one home you pick.
  • We never sell your number, and we don't call at night.
  • Texts only if you check the box, and STOP ends them.
  • We never ask for Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid numbers, or a date of birth.
  • Medical papers go straight from the hospital to the home you pick, by fax. They never come through us by email.

How homes are graded

  • Every home gets a letter grade, A, B, C, D or N, from its own public AHCA inspection record.
  • One published rule for every home, applied by our server. Nobody here adjusts a grade by hand, for any home, including Mary's House ALF.
  • Each grade shows the date of the AHCA record it came from and links to that record, so you can check it yourself.
  • Grades never change the order homes are listed in. You can choose to filter by grade.
  • A grade sums up a public record. It isn't a rating of care, staff or comfort, and it isn't a recommendation.

Me and Mary's House ALF

  • I'm Jorge Recarey, a licensed ALF administrator with over 45 years in the managed healthcare field.
  • I run Mary's House ALF and have a personal interest in it. It's listed under the same rules as every other home.
  • When it fits your family, I'll tell you. When it doesn't, or it's full, I'll tell you that too, and help you find the right place.
